Q.
I
want to be sure the sofa or chair I order will be the right size
for my room setting. How can I be sure of the size?
A. Each catalog page
has the dimensions of every item in the style shown on the page.
The Overall Length measures the item at its widest point (usually
from outside arm to outside arm left to right). The Overall Depth
shows how far the item extends out when pushed up against a wall.
The Overall Height measures the highest point of the item.
Seating Length shows the total length of the sitting area (not
including the arms), and Seating Depth measures the seat cushions
from front to back where it touches the back cushion. Arm Height
is measured at the front of the arm. (The arm may be higher at
the back.)
As important as it is for an item to fit the room, it is equally
important that the item can be transported into the room through
exterior and interior doors. All of our furniture can be taken
through standard doorways by experienced delivery persons, so you
shouldn’t have a problem unless your door openings are small. Be
sure to measure your door openings and talk with your J. B. Lodge
retailer so they can be sure your pieces will fit.
Q. I really like
the custom look of combining different fabrics or fabric and
leather on one piece. I’m hesitant to decide how to combine them
and make my furniture really look good. What should I do?
A. These days there is really no wrong way to combine two or more
materials on one piece.
First of all, choose the materials you want to combine. Your J.
B. Lodge dealer has samples of all our fabrics and leathers. Hold
the samples together in good lighting to see that the colors blend
well.
Second: On each catalog page, we show items that combine fabric
with fabric and fabric with leather. Use them as your visual
guide in making your choice. Visualize the materials you have
chosen in place of the materials on the photographs. Point out to
your J. B. Lodge retailer any changes you want to make on your own
items.
Third: When combining leather and fabric, decide whether you want
to sit on leather or sit on fabric, as they each have a different
feel. If you want the feel of leather on the seats and/or backs
where you sit, order your furniture that way. If you prefer the
feel of fabric where you sit but want leather on the arms or other
areas for that rustic look, order your furniture that way.
Our Leather Accent combinations have pre-designated areas for
leather and fabric, so you can simply choose the leather and
fabric you
like and the guesswork is minimized.
In any event, your J. B. Lodge dealer is equipped to help you make
all
the right choices.
Q. Why is “8-way
hand-tied coil spring seating” better than “drop-in”
coil
spring systems or sinuous wire springs used by other
manufacturers?
A. The 8-way hand-tied spring network is composed
of heavy-gauge tempered steel coil springs. These springs are
flexible enough to cushion a child, yet they are strong enough to
support a large adult without flattening out the springs,
guaranteeing that persons of all sizes will “get a ride”. No other
spring system can give such comfort to light and heavy persons
alike. Pre-manufactured “drop-in” spring units claim to be just as
good as 8-way hand-tied, but they are cheaper short-cuts that don’t
perform as well.
Q.
Can I order direct from the factory?
A. We
do not sell direct to consumers for a number of reasons. Here are
three:
1.
For many products, you can tell enough about them from a photograph
and written description. For upholstered furniture, you need to touch
and test it out by sitting in the item (or a similar model). Our
authorized J. B. Lodge dealers have floor samples you can touch and
feel to make sure you will be happy with the furniture you order.
2. Each item we make
can be ordered in any of our 70 fabrics and leathers, and we have
several wood finish choices for exposed legs. Our J. B. Lodge
dealers can help guide you through these choices, helping coordinate
fabrics and being sure the items you choose will fit your room and
your tastes.
3. Upholstered
furniture requires special handling by experienced delivery persons to
be sure it is in excellent condition when placed in use. Care must be
taken to be sure an item is not rubbed, torn or damaged when taken up
stairways, through doorways and placed in the room. Specialized
upholstery repair persons must be found to repair torn fabric or
“punched in” outside backs, and they can be both difficult to find and
expensive. An authorized J. B. Lodge dealer in your area will be
there to handle any problems you may encounter.
To find a J. B. Lodge
dealer near you, contact us by filling out the inquiry information on
our “Contact Us” page.
Q. How long does it
take to get the J. B. Lodge furniture after I order it?
A. Our production time is four to five weeks from the date we receive
an order from a dealer. We send an order acknowledgment to the dealer
which tells them the date we are scheduled to ship your order. We
have maintained this consistently-prompt production timetable since
1990. Delivery usually takes one to two weeks in most parts of the
United States, so you can count on receiving your purchase in about
six weeks from the time the order is placed. (Exception: shipments to
the West Coast may take up to three weeks.)
We stock all fabrics shown in your dealer’s fabric samples, but
occasionally our fabric mills do not get fabric to us on time. If we
have to back-order your furniture, we notify your dealer by telephone
at least a week in advance of the scheduled production date. We do
all we can to ship every order complete and on time, but sometimes
circumstances prevent us from doing so.
